Shakira vs Gerard Piqué

Shakira and Gerard Piqué’s 2022 separation became a public conflict after Shakira described betrayal and used “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” to mock Piqué’s new relationship; Piqué answered with Casio watches, a Renault Twingo and comments about protecting their children.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué confirmed their separation on June 4, 2022, after an 11-year relationship. Their statement asked for privacy and identified the wellbeing of their two sons as the priority. Because they had not married, the main formal issue was their parenting arrangement rather than divorce proceedings.

In September 2022, Shakira called the separation “the darkest hour of my life” and said she had moved to Spain and placed her career second so Piqué could continue playing for FC Barcelona.

Her October single “Monotonía” said that neither partner was solely at fault and that “monotony was to blame.” Its video showed Shakira being shot through the chest and carrying her exposed heart. By then, Piqué’s relationship with Clara Chía Martí was public, although no public finding established the full private timeline or whether the relationships overlapped.

In January 2023, Shakira’s Bizarrap session described an unnamed former partner who failed her and compared his new relationship to trading a Ferrari for a Twingo and a Rolex for a Casio. Wordplay on Piqué’s surname and references to a younger replacement made the intended subjects clear.

Piqué answered through the Kings League by distributing Casio watches and arriving at an event in a Renault Twingo. Shakira followed with “TQG,” saying that seeing a former partner “with the new one” had hurt her and addressing the new girlfriend directly.

In March 2023, Piqué declined to discuss the songs in detail and said his priority was protecting their children. In June, Shakira said she learned “through the press” that she had been betrayed while her father was in intensive care. That was her allegation; Piqué did not admit infidelity or provide a detailed account of the separation.

Shakira’s 2024 album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran collected several songs about the separation. Piqué said later that the full truth was not always shared publicly and criticised how the media presented the story, but he did not give an alternative account or directly answer Shakira’s betrayal allegation.

In 2026, Shakira said she would always feel gratitude toward Piqué as the father of their children. Their parenting arrangement had been settled, no current public legal case between them was established, and neither continued a sustained direct exchange. The conflict is publicly inactive, but neither party has announced a reconciliation.
